Letter to the Editor of the St. John's Newfoundland Evening Telegram

I have been involved with dogs, breeding, training and exhibiting them for well over 30 years and presently run a dog training school.

As part of our courses, my instructors and I have always given our clients information about dog food, advising them to supplement their brands of dog food with raw vegetables and meat. The influence of proper feeding on dog behavior should not be ignored.

While the recipes given in Nov. 8th Evening Telegram would be an improvement on many commercial dog foods, a more nutritionally balanced diet would be advisable.

I have been preparing meals for my own dogs using raw meat and vegetables and cooked grains with the addition of vitamins and minerals for some years. My dogs have annual blood tests and the results have always been within normal limits. I use Wendy Volhard’s “natural diet” —a proven, scientific diet that has been in use for over 20 years.
